Players Championship Betting Preview

Known as the “fifth major” the Players Championship at Sawgrass attracts a top class field and as usual Tiger Woods figures at the top of the market and is 4/1 betuk.com . Tiger hasn't looked at his best since his return from injury and we're going to oppose him on a course where he never seems to play particularly well anyway.

Second favourite Phil Mickelson at 10/1 betuk.com has a similar record to Tiger over the course-poor! and so we're going to discount him too.

Tiger's poor results here may be down to the fact that the course doesn't really favour the long hitters but favours driving accuracy and hitting greens in regulation. With only Woods and Mickelson under 25/1 there looks to be plenty of chances of a bit of value with the majority of bookmakers paying 1/4 odds for five places.

We've picked out a few of the shorer more accurate hitters that could finish in the top five at big prices.

Sean O'Hair won last week at Quail Hollow and he is pretty consistent from the tee and is obviously in decent form. He has played well round here before and at 25/1 William Hill he could be worth an each/way bet.

Sergio Garcia won this event last year and he looks to be a big price at 40/1 Sporting Bet he is one for the short list and we think he looks great value and is sure to make a top five finish.

Pat Perez was one of our big price tips to do well at the Masters, but he disappointed. We're going to give him another chance as we think he has the qualities to do well here and at 80/1 Unibet UK he could be worth a small stake each/way.

Davis Love III has finished second here twice and knows the course well. There's nothing in his current form to make you think he's ready to win this tournament, but he's another that could go well at a decent price. He's 70/1Unibet UK and has an outsiders chance.

Chad Campbell looks to be a big price at 70/1 PaddyPower given that he has played this course pretty well in the past. Beten in a play off at the Masters this course willbe far more to his liking than Quali Hollow and we wouldn't be surprised to see a big showing.

John Merrick got us a nice return at the Masters when we tipped him at odds of over 300/1 to win and 80/1 to place. He's only 125/1William Hill this time but we think another each/way bet could bring us another nice win.

Our four against the field are

1st Chad Campbell
2nd John Merick

3rd Pat Perez

4th Sergio Garcia
