Champions League not sexy

I don't know about you but I was pretty disappointed in the quality in both the Champions League semi Finals. Barcelona dominated Chelsea without really hurting them and when they did create any real chances Petr Czech foiled them.

Chelsea never really threatened and seemed quite happy just to sit and contain Barcelona-which is fair enough with a second leg at home coming up-but I still thought they could have tried to be a bit more adventurous. They just hoofed the ball up the park at times and while it ended up being effective it was pretty rubbish to watch if you were a neutral.

Barcelona can feel a bit aggrieved that Ballack didn't receive his marching orders for a pretty cynical foul that should have warranted a second yellow, but even then I'm not too sure they would have scored anyway. The seemed content to play in front of Chelsea and look for the "Perfect goal." Still it does mean that next week's match is still in the balance and at least Chelsea will have to come out and have ago, so maybe we'll get a decent game then.

The Manchester United v Arsenal game did have some good football, but it was only in flashes and I thought both teams cancelled each other out to a certain extent. United probably should have ended up winning by a bigger margin as Almunia had a couple of great saves. At least Arsenal tried to attack in this match and they are still in the tie and we wouldn't be too surprised to see this tie going right down to the wire and being decided on the dreaded penalties.

The injury to Ferdinand could be a big blow to Manchester United if he has suffered a broken rib and can't make the second leg.

Let's hope the four teams can serve up a bit more exciting fare in the return legs next week.

UEFA CUP Betting Preview

The first legs of the UEFA Cup semi finals take place tonight with one being all Ukrainian tie and the other being contested by two German teams.

Much like the champions League matches played this week we can expect these games to be tense nervy affairs with sides trying to keep it all a bit tight.

UEFA Cup semi finals are notoriously low scoring affairs with teh last 18 averaging only 1.8 goals per tie. The match between Dinamo and Shakhtar could easily fall into this category and at 4/7 (Totesport) for the under 2.5 goals and the under 1.5 goals at 6/4 (Stan James) these are two bets we think could be worth backing.

Dinamo currently lead their domestic table and are 15 points clear of Shakhtar with only five matches remaining. Both teams entered this competition after being eliminated from the Champions league group stages and there won't be an awful lot separating them come the end of the second leg next week.

With Home advantage we think Dinamo Kiev may just win tonight. They look a nice price at Evens (Paddypower) and should be backed to win. A bet on the 1-0 correct score at 29/5 (Betfair) looks the one to be on.

Werder Bremen are hosts to Hamburg in the other semi final and this looks as if it could be another close game. Bremen beat Hamburg in the semi finals of the German cup only last week. They ran out 3-1 winners after penalties and are favourites at 10/11(Betfred) to come out on top again tonight.

Hamburg are still in with a decent chance of winning the Bundesliga while Werder Bremen have had a poor season and lie in 10th position. This is a match we think might buck the trend of low scoring semi finals and we're taking both teams to score at 4/7 (888Sport).

Hamburg are 15/4 (Bet365) to take an advantage into the second game and while we fancy Hamburg to get to the final we're not too sure they will get a win tonight.

We're selecting a draw at 5/2 (Ladbrokes) and are risking a 2-2 correct score bet at 17/1 (Betdaq). We're also tipping Ivica Olic 9/1 (Bet365) to be first goalscorer.

Manchester United v Arsenal Champions League preview

It's the turn of Manchester United and Arsenal to battle it out in the Champions league semi final at Old Tarfford tonight. This will be the frst time the two teams have met in the Champions League and we can expect a fiercly competitive match.

We've previewd the game fully at our website but we've included some of the bets we're recommending for the match tonight below:

Statistically Champions league semi finals haven’t yielded too many goals over the years. The last 20 semi final matches in the Champions league have thrown up just 36 goals and so statistically the under 2.5 goals at 4/6 ( Paddypower) should be a bet to be thinking about. Having said that six of the last nine meetings between the two teams has yielded over 2.5 goals and with both teams knocking in the goals of late (United scoring 12 in their last four at home, Arsenal scoring 12 in their last four away) we’re recommending the over 2.5 goals bet at 6/5 (Betfred).

Taking both teams to score at Evens (Sportingbet) is a bet to be thinking about. Arsenal have scored once in six of their last 10 visits to Old Trafford and we’d recommend a having a bet on this.

United and Arsenal affairs tend to be pretty cagey affairs, especially early in the game and so it could pay to look at halftime/full time results of Draw/draw 4/1 (Betfred) or the bet we’re selecting of the Draw/Manchester United at 39/10 (Betdaq).

We think home advantage might just give United the edge in this match and we’re going for a home win. In five of the last six league meetings the winning team has scored two goals and so United to win 2-0 7/1 (888Sport) and the 2-1 score 8/1 (Sportingbet) are both worth considering.

We’re tipping the latter and we are also going to select Cristiano Ronaldo 5/1 (BetUK) to be first goalscorer.

Champions League Betting-Barcelona v Chelsea

Chelsea travel to the Nou Camp to take on Barcelona in the semi final of the Champions League and they will have to be at their very best if they are going to try and keep the tie in the balance for the second leg.

This could turn out to be a really good match to watch as Barcelona can only really play the one way…attack, and Chelsea will be looking to put a shaky Barcelona defence under as much pressure as possible. It’s a match that looks to have goals in it and the over 2.5 goals at 4/5 (Betfred) looks to be worth considering. In seven of the10 matches Barcelona have played in the competition this season there has been over 2.5 goals.

Barcelona have scored four goals in each of their last two home games in the Champions League and had effectively killed off the match and the tie before half time. It’s likely they will come out and try to get an early goal tonight too and with that in mind the half time/full time result of Barcelona/Barcelona 15/8 (Stan James) is another that look s to be worth a bet.

Chelsea have been hitting the goals trail on their last couple of away matches too and we believe they will score in the Nou Camp tonight. They have managed a 1-1 and 2-2 draw in recent years and another draw tonight is quoted at a best price of 14/5 (Betdaq).

We don’t believe Chelsea will win as the have only managed one away win in the competition. They are 5/1 (Betfair) to win the match, but realistically the chances of that look pretty slim and we wouldn’t be advising a stake on them.

There’s a wealth of talent on show in this match with any number of players capable of getting the first goal. We’ve gone for Xavi 18/1 (Coral) and Frank Lampard 10/1(Paddypower) as our choices.

We’re also going for Barcelona to win by 2 goals which is available at 4/1 (Ladbrokes).

Both teams to score looks to be pretty much a banker and at 4/5 (Totesport) is a bet we like.

We’re taking Barcelona to win 8/11 (888Sport) and we are having a bet on the 4-2 correct score 66/1 (Bet365) and the 3-1 scoreline at 66/1 (888Sport).

Saturday's Horse Racing Tips-Sandown Gold Cup

The National Hunt season comes to a close on Saturday with the last big race of the season the Bet365 Gold Cup taking place at 3:10 Sandown.

A field of 15 go to post for this years race and it looks a pretty open affair with quite a few in with chances. In the past this race has been won by Arkle and Desert Orchid, but there's nothing in thatclass in the field this year. In fact it's a pretty ordinary race in our opinion and features quite a few horses that ran at the Cheltenham Festival and at Aintree.

With only 15 runners a lot of bookmakers will be only paying out on the first three although we expect sponsors BET365 might be paying out on fourth place.
We've previewed the race in full at our website but here are our selections:

1st Briery Fox
2nd Kilbeggan Blade
3rd Bowleaze
4th Darkness

We've also gone through the rest of the card at Sandown and at the other National Hunt meeting at Market Rasen to hopefully find us some winners
Our selections at Sandown:

1:00 North Parade (e/way)
1:35 American Trilogy
2:05 Mister Benedictine (e/way)
2:35 Kalahari King
3:10 Briery Fox
3:45 Paco Boy
4:15 Tartan Bearer
4:50 Resurge (e/way)

Market Rasen
1:15 Mad Professor
1:45 Awesome George
2:15 Dawn Ride
2:45 Imminent Victory (e/way)
3:20 Senor Shane

More Winning Football Selections

Our featured Bet Of The Day isn't doing brilliantly this month, but if you follow our football tips on the blog and in the betting tip articles at our website hopefully you'll be showing a nice profit.

Last night we we gave three winning bets in the Manchester United v Portsmouth match including the correct score bet of 2-0 at 9/2. On Tuesday evening we correctly predicted a draw between Liverpool and Arsenal at odds of 5/2 and we also gave the over 2.5 goals as a selection at Evens. we didn't stop there either-we tipped a number of other bets on Tuesday night's fixtures that were winning bets including a 10/1 winner

Wednesday
Man Utd Home win 1/4
Manchester United to win both halves 13/8
Manchester United to win to Nil at 4/5
correct score bet of 2-0 to United 9/2

Tuesday

Reading away win 11/8
Derby v Reading correct score 0-2 10/1
Bristol Rvrs v Brighton Away Win 12/5

Premier League Betting-Man Utd v Portsmouth

Two big Premiership games take place tonight with Manchester Unted at home to Portsmouth and Chelsea at home to Everton.

Manchester United will be looking to take all three points from their home fixture with Portsmouth tonight.

United can go three points clear again at the top of the Premier League with a victory and still have a game in hand of their nearest rivals. e can't see United being troubled by Portsmouth too much and wippin a United win at ods of 1/4.

With United long odds on we've picked out a few bets that offer a bit more value than he win. Our betting tips for this match are

Manchester United to win both halves 13/8

Manchester United to win to Nil at 4/5

correct score bet of 2-0 to United 9/2

Carlos Tevez to be first goaslcorer 11/2

Chelsea are odds on at 2/5 (betUK) to take all three points tonight and while they do look as if they should have the beating of Everton at home it's worth noting that the last three matches between these two sides have ended in draws.

Chelsea really need the three points tonight and Everton had a tough game with extra time at the weekend and we think Everton could just run out of legs tonight

Our betting selections for this match are

Chesea to win 2/5

Correct score Chelsea 3 v 0 Everton 9/1

Michael Ballack to score anytime 5/1 (Betfair)

Premier League-Liverpool v Arsenal

The big game tonight is the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield. A win for Liverpool would see them go top of the table and put some pressure on Manchester United. If Liverpool don’t take all three points then it looks as if their season is all but over and that’s why we believe they are under a lot more pressure than Arsenal to win tonight.

Arsenal have all but secured fourth spot and they will be able to play without any added pressure and as they are in decent form away from home and haven’t lost for nine games they look a bit overpriced at 4/1 (Partybets).

It’s true Liverpool are in excellent form as well and have gone 16 games unbeaten at home, but they are missing Steven Gerrard tonight and he will be sorely missed. Liverpool are 8/11 (Paddypower) to win and although Arsenal have only won once at Anfield on their last five visits it’s worth noting that the last three clashes between the two sides all ended in draws.

Liverpool need to go all out for a win tonight and with Arsenal scoring goals for fun at the moment, the over 2.5 goals at Evens (Betfred) and the both teams to score bet at Evens (Totesport) look likely to bring a return on your stake.

For first goalscorer betting we like Fernando Torres at 9/2 (Coral) and Theo Walcott at 14/1 (Ladbrokes) could also be worth a bet.

We’re taking the match to end in a draw 5/2 (Unibet) and were going for a 2-2 scoreline 18/1 (Skybet).

Championship Burnley v Sheffield United Preview

The match between Burnley and Sheffield United tonight looks like being a cracker and could be well worth watching on Sky Sports.

Sheffield United are looking for three points to close in on second placed Birmingham while the three points for Burnley would see them move into fifth position in the championship and give them a little breathing space over the chasing group.

Shefield United have been in brilliant form of late and are on an unbeaten run of 12 games. The form they have been showing away from home is even better and they haven't lost in 15 away matches. On that sort of for is not hard to see why bookies have them at a pretty short price for an away team at 31/20

Burnley have been in pretty decent form themselves and their away defeat by Cardiff last week was their first loss in seven games. They have won their last three home matches and defeated Shefield United 3-2 at Bramall Lane back in December.

With home advantage we're tempted to go with Burnley at odds of 31/20 , but this looks too close to call and so we're tipping a draw at 12/5.

Our prediction is a 2-2 draw 14/1

A Good Weekend of Sport

I don’t know about anyone else but I thought the sport on TV this weekend was really good …and pretty exciting too. Okay of you’re an Arsenal or a Man Utd fan you probably won’t be seeing it that way, but you’d probably admit that the games your teams were involved in were pretty exciting.

I’m pleased that Everton are going to Wembley as it’s nice to see teams outside the big four getting a chance to taste a bit of glory. David Moyes especially deserves his big day at Wembley as he has consistently worked wonders in getting Everton into a challenging position for European place nearly every season on a pretty slim budget. He’s definitely a manager who could fill Sir Alex’s boots at Old Trafford-don’t you think?

It was also nice to see one of the smaller teams and lesser known drivers win the F1 Grand Prix in China. The race conditions were pretty atrocious, but that made for some pretty exciting incidents and very watchable TV and it was a surprise to see Red Bull take the first two places.

It’s debatable whether they would have won if conditions had been dry, but they adapted better to the conditions than some of the other teams and deserved their win. I’m enjoying this F1 season more than last, mainly because we’re not suffering Mr Charisma Lewis Hamilton and his post race interviews. The man has the personality of a lump of cardboard and I can honestly say (yes even as a Brit) that I hope he continues to trail in only picking up the odd point here and there as that might keep him off our screens.

Andy Murray did well in Monte Carlo to reach the semi final of the Masters before being beaten by Nadal. It was a pretty decent showing in this tournament by Murray considering this isn’t his favourite surface and the 4/1 on offer for him to win Wimbledon doesn’t look too bad a price.

This looks like we might have another great sporting week in prospect with the World Snooker Championship starting at the crucible, the London Marathon next Saturday and some pretty important football clashes including the match between Liverpool and Arsenal tomorrow (Tuesday).

It all kicks off tonight with a vital Championship clash between Burnley and Sheffield United tonight and you can read our preview and betting tips on the game a little later today.

Scottish Grand National-Ayr 3:25 Saturday April 18

It might not be as prestigious or as far in distance as the Aintree Grand National and it might not have as many runners but the Scottish Grand National is still a great opportunity for punters to back a decent priced winner or pick up some decent e/way place money.

This year 21 runners go to post and we're taking a look at those that we think will run well and maybe bring us a return on our money.

Quite a few of the runners including Nine De Sivola 8/1,Tricky Trickster 8/1, Dear Villez 20/1, Gone to Lunch 12/1 all ran at the Cheltenham Festival, but Festival runners don't have great record in the race and we're probably going to look elsewhere.

Grand National Runners don't have great record in this either, so Brooklyn Brownie 18/1 although falling early at Aintree is another we're going to pass over.

So now that we've discounted some we think won't win... what about those that might?

A horse we do like is According to John 16/1 who ran in the John Smiths Chase at Aintree finishing fourth. He will like the underfoot conditions but a hard race at SAintree might just tell on him over this long distance and we think he will have place chances at best.

Chief Dan George 13/2 has been heavily backed for this and will be a leading contender. He's likely to go off favourite, but favourites have only won two of the last 10 runnings of the race and again he's one that we think may well be for forecast backers rather than for single bets.

Our idea of the winner is Sound Accord 20/1 The horse has only raced seven times over fences, but he's only ever been out the frame once. Lightly raced horses have a decent record in the race and he's a horse who looks as if he will be suited by the trip.

We also think Native Coral 33/1 and King Barry 20/1
have lively chances at big prices.

With most bookmaker's paying 1/4 odds for the first four our selections are

1st Sound Accord-we recommend an each/way bet

2nd According to John

3rd Chief Dan George

4th King Barry

Weekend Football Betting Selections

Every weekend we try and pick out what we believe are some of the best value bets from the Premier League and other domestic leagues throughout the country. We've listed some of our selections for this weekend below.

A full list of our free tips for this weekends games are available at our website

Stoke could just about guarantee their safety with a win over Blackburn and with three wins and three draws from their last six home matches the 7/5 (Bet365) on offer for a home win looks a great price to us.

Blackburn have lost their last two away games and have only managed two wins from
their last six matches so don't make a lot of appeal to us even at 9/4 (Totesport). This will be tight , but we're going with Stoke and we think they'll sneak a 1-0 win 7/1 (Ladbrokes). Ricardo Fuller could be worth taking as first goalscorer at 13/2 (Paddypower).

Poor recent form has seen Bradford drop out of the play-off places and with Dagenham&Redbridge only two points behind they could leapfrog Bradford and all but end their play-off hopes if they win.

Dagenham& Redbridge have won their last two home games and with Bradford woefully out of form Dagenham look a great price at 13/10 (Bet365) to get a home win and we think they are one of the best bets of the weekend

In the SPL we're taking a chance on Hibernian beating second placed Rangers. Unbeaten in their last six games and unbeaten in their last five at home we reckon Hibs can put a dent in Rangers title hopes. Rangers have a few injury problems and we think that could give Hibs an advantage.

Hibernian are 4/1 (Partybets) and look worth chancing. We're predicting a 2-1 win at 20/1 (Coral) and our choice as first goalscorer is Steve Fletcher at 9/1 (888Sport)

Our Best Football Bets for the weekend are

Ross County 2 v 1 Dunfermline correct score bet 9/1

Stoke v Blackburn Home win 7/5

Winning Bets

It's been a pretty mixed week as far as winning bets and tips go with winners at 10/1... 11/1...7/1...and 8/1 among our tips this week

Our Bet of the Day feature on the website has produced two winner up to yesterday (Thursday) with 8/1 and 7/1 winners, both horse racing tips (Maybe we should stick to these).

Our football bets had varied results. We got the Man Utd Porto result wrong-but we gave Arsenal 4/7 to win their match with Villareal and we also tipped the correct score of 3-0 at a great price of 11/1. we completed a treble of winning selections on this match by giving the over 2.5 goals at 21/10 as well.

We also gave the DRAW at 23/10 between Bayern and Barcelona and we combined that with tipping Franck Ribery to be first goalscorer a 10/1.

Lat night's UEFA Cup matches were a bit of a disaster though with only the over 2.5 goals at 4/5 and the both teams to score bet at 8/11 from the Manchester City v Hamburg game bringing us any returns.

Lets hope our weekend football tips can bring us some more winners.

UEFA CUP-Quarter finals preview and tips

It's the second legs of the UEFA Cup quarter finals tonight and we've previewed the games and given our full betting selections on all of tonight's games at our website. Here's a summary of our previews and some of our selections.

Manchester City trail 3-1 from their first leg match with Hamburg and they appear to have a tough task in trying to overcome this two goal deficit. Hamburg remain unbeaten in all their away games in this competition so far and they showed enough in last week's game to suggest they can take something from the game tonight.

We're tipping a draw 23/10 and we're taking a chance on there being a few goals and going for a 2-2 correct score at odds of 11/1.

In tonight's other matches our selections are:

Udinese v Werder Bremen Home win 13/10

Marseille v Shakhtar Home Win 4/5

Dinamo Kiev v PSG Draw 5/2

Champions League-Take Porto to Win

Manchester United look to have a tough task on their hands tonight in their away match with Porto. The Portugese champions are unbeaten in 12 games at home against English opposition and this shows just what a tough task lies ahead for United.

If United were playing at the top of their form then we'd possibly be thnking about tipping them -although they do look a bit short a price at 6/5, but they haven't been at their best recently and Porto look good value to win tonight.

In the other quarter final being played tonight we're tipping Arsenal to get the better of Villareal. After securing a 1-1 draw in the first leg we expect Arsenal to push on and get an early goal before going on to win the match

Arsenal have been in great goalscoring form recently and we expect them to win with a couple of goals to spare tonight.

Our selections for tonight's games are a home win for Porto 13/5

Arsenal to win 4/7

Champions League-Liverpool Can Win

Although Chelsea carry what looks like an unassailable 3-1 lead into their Champions league quarter final tie with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge if any team can overcome a deficit like that it's Liverpool.

Given how well Liverpool have been playing it was a shock that Chelsea went to Anfield and won so convincingly. Now the boot is on the other foot can Liverpool get the result they need to qualify?...we think they can.

Liverpool recently went to Old Trafford and trounced Manchester United 4-0 they also won away at Chelsea earlier in the season 1-0 and have shown when the chips are down they are capable of turning on the style and getting the win when it matters.

We don't believe a 2-0 win is beyond them and that's all they need to qualify. Chelse will be missing John Terry at the back and we think that will be significant. Chelsea showed against Bolton at the weekend how vulnerable they can be at the back sometimes and Liverpool will take advantage of any slip ups they make tonight.

We're tipping Liverpool to win 39/20 and we belive they'll win by a 2-0 scoreline 14/1

In the other quarter final match betwen Bayern and Barcelona it's really just a formality for Barcelona and we think they will get a draw 23/10.

A full preview of both tonight's quarter final matches aand our best bets are available at our website

Irish Grand National-Our Tips

The Irish Grand National is run at Fairyhouse this afternoon at 3.55 with a field of 30 going to post.

We've given a more detailed analysis of the race at the Pickabet website, but here's a quick preview of the race and our top five selections

There are three British trained runners going to post, but we don't believe that any will win, although Ferdy Murphy's Poker De Sivola has a lively each/way chance.

Our selection to win the race is Drumconvis 11/1 who ran a great race to finish second at Cheltenham last month in the National Hunt Chase Challenge Trophy. He was held up and made smooth headway that day ,but just failed to peg back the winner. The drop back in trip today should suit and he looks to have a great chance.

As an each/way bet we're putting up Skip Two who has solid each/way claims. The horse comes from a smaller lesser known stable, but has shown enough in large fields before to be give a chance.

Our five against the field are

1st Drumconvis
2nd Skip Two
3rd Poker De Sivola
4th Emma Jane
5th Selection Box.

A Winning Bet of the Day... at Last!

Well it's been a while coming, but after five losing bets in a row we managed to come up with a winner.

We tipped Sheffield United to win away at Reading at 12/5 and advised a 5pt win. So we're back in front slightly for the month.

As Bet of the Day today,we're turning our attention to horse racing and we've tipped
SOLWAY SAM in the 5:45 at Haydock. We're advising 2pts e/way at 10/1

The horse is already a winner of a bumper and we think he can defy top weight and a penalty and go close.

Lets hope we can go on a winning run. Our Bet of The Day selection can be found Monday to Saturday at our website.

There's no Bet of the Day tomorrow (Sunday) but look out for Monday's selection which wilL be for the Irish Grand National.

US Masters Golf Tips

The US Masters golf tournament tees off later today and we've picked out a few bets we think can bring a return on our stakes.

Tiger Woods is a hot favourite at around odds of 9/4 but we've picked out some big priced players who we think will have a decent tournament.

The last two winners of the tournament Zach Johnson and Trevor Imelmann went off at three figure prices and Imelmann was priced at 360/1 on the betfair exchanges before the tournament started.

We have a betting preview in more detail available at our website where we have prices from popular bookmakers, but here we've used prices from Betfair where the win prices are at least 20% more than traditional bookmakers.

Here is a quick rundown of our selections :

Padraig Harrington- (ODDS 20/1) He's our tip to win the tournament and has improved every time he has played the Augusta course. We think he has an excellent chance of winning and looks an each/way certainty.

Zach Johnson- (ODDS 49/1) Won this tournament when a big outsider in 2007. Played well in his latest tournament when finishing Third. We know he can play the course and he may have hit form at just the right time. Looks likely to be in contention.

Pat Perez- (ODDS 169/1) He has already won a tournament this year and comes into this on the back of a fourth place in his last tournament. He looks to be overpriced and could go well at a huge price. A small each/way bet could bring a nice return.

Sean O'Hair - (ODDS 74/1) Has now started 12 majors and looks to be due a top six finish. He is another player who looks to be in decent form coming into the event and his chance has to be respected.

Rory McIlroy- (ODDS 39/1) The young man from Northern Ireland looks set to have great future in the game and has been well backed at big prices for this tournament. No rookie has won this since 1979, but quite a few have finished top five and we think if he plays up to his best could be troubling the leaders on the final day. Another good each/way bet.

John Merrick- (ODDS 799/1) Yes I know I'm bonkers tipping somebody at this price, but he really does look well overpriced for the tournament. This is only his fourth year as a pro and he's made the cut in eight of the 10 tournaments he has played in this season. He's finished second and been in the top ten twice as well. A long hitter he will be suited by this extra long course and if he can keep his short game together could finish in the money at a massive price. At a huge price has to be worth a Small each/way bet.

All the above prices are from the Betfair website and you can place a bet there just by clicking on the banner below.

Liverpool v Chelsea Champions League Betting

Chelsea and Liverpool meet for the Millionth time in the Champions League...okay it's not the millionth time, it's the ninth match they have played in the competition,it just feels like the millionth.

Anyway it's probably going to be like the previous matches and be an extremely close thing. Of the previous eight meetings five have ended in draws and if you fancy a draw tonight you can get 2/1 which isn't a bad price.

The under 2 goals is available at 4/5 and that too looks worth a bet.

So who is going to win? Well on current form you've got to fancy Liverpool at home. They have been scoring goals for fun over the last few weeks.

With Chelsea not managing an away win in the competition yet they don't look worth backing even at 13/5 . If you couple that with the fact they haven't managed a win at Anfield on their last five visits, and that Liverpool have already done the double over them this season then Liverpool look a good bet.

We reckon it's going to be close but we're taking Liverpool to win 23/20.

We're tipping a 2-0 win for Liverpool at 9/1 and for our first goalscorer bet we're going totake a chance on Riera at 11/1

In the other quarter fial tonight we're going for Barcelona 4/11 to beat Bayern in what could be a high scoring game.

We're selecting a bet on the half-time full-time result of draw/Barcelona at 10/3.

Franck Ribery at 10/1 appears to be a good price to be first goaslcorerand he's our selection. We're going to go for a correct score of 3-1 to Barcelona at 10/1

Our Best Bets For Tonight are:

Liverpool v Chelsea
Liverpool to win 23/20

Correct score Liverpool to win 2-0 9/1

First Goalscorer Albert Riera 11/1

Barcelona v Bayern

Over 2.5 goals 7/10

Franck Ribery to be first goalscorer 10/1

Correct score Barcelona to win 3-1 10/1

Bet of The Day-Horse Racing Hereford

Well last night's Champion's league games were a bit of a disaster betting wise. Only two bets out of six cane up at 5/4 and 10/11...Hardly earth shattering prices.

We'll be posting our selections for tonight's football matches a little later, but for now we're going to give you our Bet of the Day.

Our selection today is in the opening race at Hereford at 2:10 and is Perfect Line.

The horse is available at around the 7/1-8/1 price and looks to have a solid chance.

The selection comes from the in form Phillip Hobbs yard and although it's bare form doesn't amount to much the horse looks to be open to a bit of improvement and with a good young jockey on board today we think a win is very possible

Champions League Betting Tips

It's the Champions League Quarter Final stages and Manchester United are at home to Porto tonight while Arsenal travel to Spain to play Villareal.

United's form has been a bit iffy in recent weeks, but we're hoping the return to European competition will see an improvement. Porto lost 4-0 to Arsenal in their group matches when they last visited England but we don't really expect that same scoreline tonight. United are 2/5 to win tonight and we believe they will. Both teams are capable of scoring goals and the over 2.5 goals bet at Evens looks a decent bet.

We're going for United to win by 3-1 and that correct score bet is available at odds of 12/1 (Sportingbet). For a first goalscorer bet we're tipping Wayne Rooney who is around the 5/1mark.

With Porto likely to score, a bet on Porto's Lucho Gonzales 5/1 to score anytime could bring a return.

We don't believe Arsenal can get a win away against Villareal and we're not tempted by the 13/8on offer at some bookmakers.Villareal are unbeaten in faive at home and have only losT twice at home allseason. When you look at Arsenal's away form of only one win in this years Champions League so far itwould pay to go for the draw 9/4 (Totesport)or a home win 19/10.

We're going for Villareal to win and we're tipping a correct score of 2-1 to Villareal.

OUR BEST BETS FOR TONIGHT ARE
Man Utd v Porto

Over 2.5 goals 10/11
Anytime goalscorer Lucho Gonzales 5/1
United to win 3-1 11/1

Villareal v Arsenal
Villareal to win 19/10
correct score Villareal to win 2-1 11/1
Over 2.5 goals 5/4

The prices quoted for our Best Bets above all come from 888sport bookmakers.

Football Betting Tips Birmingham v Wolves Monday

It's a top of the table clash in the Championship tonight with first spot Wolves visiting second placed Birmingham. We've had a look at the fixture and the stats and we reckon we've come up with a couple of bets that should seehopefully make a little profit.

Neither team have scored a lot of goals recently and in the last six matches both teams have played, only once have both been involved in a game where more than two goals have been scored. With that in mind the under 2.5 goals 3/5 (BET365) and the under 1.5 goals 2/1 (Betfair) have to come into play and we think the under 2.5 goals is the best option.

Earlier in the season the match betwen these two clubs at Molineaux ended in a 1-1 draw and we weouldn't be too surprised to see that result crop up again. Three of the last six meetings between the clubs have finished 1-1 and that bet is our bet of the day selection at 6/1.

If you fancy a bet on first goalscorer then for Birmingham we're tipping Gary O'Connor 7/1 and for Wolves Chris Iwelumo 8/1.

So to recap on what we think are the bets to be on this game tonight:

The Draw 9/4
Correct Score Bet 1-1 6/1
under 2.5 goals 3/5
Garry O'Connor first goalscorer 7/1

Weekend Football Tips

Last weekend we put forward two best bets for the football fixtures taking place and we were lucky enough to see both of them win.

We gave Darlington v Morecambe to draw 12/5 and we correctly predicted the correct score of 2-1 in the Inverness v St Mirren game at odds of 6/1... so it wasn't a bad weekend for our bets bets, but it didn't stop there.

Elsewhere in the article we also tipped Bolton 11/10, Manchester United 4/9, Sheffield Wednesday 5/2, Leeds United 13/10 and Peterhead at 6/4.

So in total we tipped seven results at pretty decent odds, with only Manchester United being odds on .

Every Friday we give our rundown of our selected games including Premier fixtures as well as other domestic games. Hopefully we can keep tipping as many winners as we did last week.

Grand National

Well did anyone manage to dig out the winner of the Grand National on Saturday?

If you had read the Grand National Quick Guide we made available at our website, then there's a chance you might have stumbled onto it...Here's what we said:

Mon Mone- Not shown a lot since finishing 10th in this last year. If he runs up to his best, then he's not without a chance. Good e/way bet. Rating 4.5

To be fair it wasn't our Bet Of The Day or anything, but as you can see we did say it was a Good e/way bet. We had a couple of quid on it and managed to get on at 126/1 on Betfair.

Nearly every day we post an article previewing a sporting event that's taking place either that day or the next and we give an assessment of what we believe are the bets to get on.

It's not every day we manage to dig out a bet at that price, but we do try and limit the number of short priced selections we give, as we prefer to try and give value bets whenever we can .

Why not pop over to the Pickabet website and look for our previews under our Latest Tips Header.
