European Under 21 Championships - England v Finland

The 2009 European opens today with England’s youngsters facing Finland in the opening match in Halmstad in Sweden.

England have wealth of Premiership talent on display and should prove far too strong for the Finns who are making their first ever appearance at the finals of the Championship.

England qualified in style winning 7 of their 8 qualifying games and conceded only one goal. In six of those seven wins they scored two goals or more and they look set to score a few goals today in the opener. England’s attack could give the Finnish defence a tough time today and it would be a huge upset if Finland could take anything at all from this game.

Finland are a hard working team who rely on their teamwork more than any individual. They try to play on the counter attack and they will rely on their big powerful striker Berat Sadi –who plays in Germany- to be their out and try and put the England defence under pressure.
England are hot favourites to win their opening match, but they are a pretty short price at 1/3 (Betfred) to win and we believe a better option may be to take them to win to nil at Evens (888Sport). Taking England to win both halves at 2/1 (Skybet) is another bet that is a decent alternative to the straight win .

We’d also recommend the half time/full time bet of England/England at odds of 10/11 (Paddypower).

We’re tipping England to win this with a bit in hand and we’re going to have a little bet on the correct score of 4-0 16/1 (Ladbrokes). Theo Walcott 5/1 (Coral) is our pick to be the first goalscorer.
