The Ashes-Aussies to Dust Off England

The Ashes start tomorrow with the first test between England and Australia taking place in Cardiff (Hardly a hotbed of cricket and definitely not in England the last time we looked...or has it moved??) Anyway... there are plenty of betting opportunities at the bookies for the test series as well as for each individual match taking place so we thought we'd take a look at some of the bets on offer for the whole series here on the blog.

England ran out winners of the Ashes test back in 2005 and they are a best price of 9/1 (VCBet) to repeat that famous 2-1 victory. While we still bask in the glory of that result, it should be tempered by the fact that the Aussies managed to get their mitts on the urn in the last Ashes series back in 2007 by thrashing England 5-0 and if you fancy that result to happen again you can get odds of 33/1 (Stan James).
If you've completely lost your marbles and reckon England are going to whitewash the Australians then you can get odds of 100/1 (Ladbrokes) for a 5-0 England win.

We reckon there might be one or two drawn games and we're going to go for Australia to win 3-0 14/1 (Paddypower) and 3-1 9/1 (Sportingbet).

If you're looking for a bet on the top series bowler then we recommend the 7/1 (Coral) about Brett Swann, with Ryan Sidebottom a decent each /way bet (1/5 odds to be one of the top three bowlers) at 40/1 (Paddypower).

The top runscorer bet should see Kevin Pietersen 11/2 (Totesport) and Ricky Ponting 6/1 (Betfair) both go close and if you wanted to bet on them we wouldn't try and put you off. They are the obvious choices, so we are going to go for a bit more value and the two players we think can score a few runs throughout the series are Australian opener Simon Katich 10/1 (Ladbrokes) and England's Ravi Bopara also at 10/1 (Sportingbet).

If you think England can win the test series they are available at 7/4 (888Sport) with the draw on offer at 9/2 (Bet365).

When it comes to betting you can never let your heart rule your head,so we have to side with Australia to win the series at 4/5 (William Hill).

With Test matches running over four or five days there are plenty of opportunities for betting in running, especially on the exchanges like Betfair and BETDAQ, so look for better odds there.
We will be previewing the first test in Cardiff and giving our betting tips for the match at our website
