Murray Looks Set For Wimbledon Final

Roger Federer and Tommy Haas are the first pair up in the men's singles semi final, but the nation will be waiting with baited breath for the Murray v Roddick clash which follows.

The Federer v Haas clash promises to be a great appetiser for the main course to follow and despite Federer being long odds on at 1/12 (Coral) and Haas deemedto have no chance by the bookmakers at 8/1 (Betfred) we anticipate this match to be a lot closer than those odds suggest.

With a 9-2 match record over Haas and a Wimbledon record that is up there with the greats it is easy to see why he is such a short price with bookmakers. But has is enjoying something of an indian summer to his career and he is currently on a 10 match unbeaten run on grass.

At the French Open he led Federer 2-0 in sets and held a break point in the third before eventually going down in a close match. He has been in tremendous format Wimbledon and we think this could be his best ever chance of reaching a grand slam final.

We know he is big odds and we know everyone is anticipating a Federer Murray final, but we're going to take Tommy Haas to cause one of the biggest upsets Wimbledon has seen for years and beat Federer.

We're having a bet on the match to go to five sets 7/1 (Stan James). We will also be having a bet on there being two or more tie breaks in the match at 13/4 (William Hill). Finally in this match we're going for a 3-2 win to Haas at 25/1 (Betfair).

Andy Murray will have to overcome one of the best servers in the men's game if he is to become the first male British player to reach a Wimbledon final since 1938. Andy Roddick has served an amazing 139 aces so far in the tournament with his opponents failing to return nearly half of all his serves.

With 81% of all his points won on his first serve it's important that Murray's return of serve is good on the day or he could pay the ultimate penalty. In the past Murray has dealt with Roddick's service game well and holds a 6-2 advantage in head to head clashes -including a striaght sets win here at Wimbledon.

Murray is a warm favourite to make a bit of history and the best price available on a victory for the Scot is 1/3 (William Hill). Roddick is 11/4 (Bet365) and that's probabaly a fair price. Roddick has reached two finals at Wimbledon before, but we don't expect him to make it number three today.

We're tipping a Murray win and we're taking him to win 3-1 12/5 (Paddypower). We will also be having a little bet on there being one tie break in the match at 5/4 (WilliamHill).

Wimbledon - Ladies Semi Finals Day Betting

If you were to go by the prices being offered by the bookmakers, this afternoon's matches are a formality for the Williams sisters with a best price of 4/9 (William Hill) on offer for the sisters to meet in the final.


We don't believe it's going to be as straightforward as that and think both Safina and Dementieva have a chance of upsetting the bookmakers favourites and will provide stiff opposition.

Five times Wimbledon champion Venus Williams meets the current number one player Dinara Safina in her semi-final and is long odds on at 1/5 (Paddypower) to get a victory. Venus has looked impressive in her matches so far and with such a good record at Wimbledon is hard to oppose.

Safina has played well enough so far in the competition but this is by far her stiffest test and she is priced at 4/1 (Bet365) to win the match. For a player ranked number one in the word this is a huge price and it coul dbe worth risking. The minus points about a Safina win is the fact she has never won a grand slam title, has a reputation as a bit of a choker in big matches is playing a grass court specialist and doesn't have the greatest of head to head records against Venus Williams.

So with all these negatives why might Safina cause an upset? Well there are absolutely no expectations about her winning this match. She can play under no pressure what so ever as she has been written off and that could work in her favour. The added incentive of making a grand slam final against all the odds may just be the spur she needs to win the match.

We'e tipping Safina to win 2-1 8/1 (Paddypower) we are taking a bit of achance here, but thin kit could be worth it.

Elena Dementieva was our pre tournament tip at big odds to win the title and although she faces a tough task against Serena Williams we believe she now has the game to match Serena's and can reach the final.

Both players have reached the semi final stages without really being stretched and Dementieva looks better on grass this year than she has ever done before. Last years semi finalist Dementieva has lost only four games in all her matches leading up to todays semi final and that's an impressive stat.

She also has a decent recent record against Serena Williams winning three of the last four meetings. At 4/1 (Stan James) she offers excellent value and we think she will win.

Serena Williams is a best price of 1/5 (Betfred) but we think the bookies might have got this on wrong-despite Serenas great Wimbledon record.

We're tipping Dementieva to win and think the match will go to three sets 2/1 (William Hill) with Dementieva winning 2-1 at odds of 8/1 (Sportingbet).

Wimbledon Men's Quarter Final Betting

Roger Federer gets things underway today at Wimbledon and we're taking him to win his match against Ivo Karlovic.

The only real weapon Krlovic has is his big serve and it's interesting to note that in the nine previous matches between the two players -which Federer holds an 8-1 advantage-there has been 12 tie-breaks in the matches.

Because of this we're going to have a bet on a first set tie break at Evens (Bet365). We're also having abet on the Karlovic under 15.50 games at 11/8 (Paddypower).

Andy Murray is back on court after his epic Monday night battle with Stanislas Wawrinka and he faces wild card entry Juan Carlos Ferrero. Ferrero is priced at 38/5 (Betdaq) to cause an upset, but even although he could take advantage of any tiredness Murray may show, we just can't see him winning.

Ferrero will be dangerous but Murray beat him 6-4 6-2 at Queens and we can see something similar happening here. It's possible Murray will do things the hard way again and so we're going for a 3-1 win for Murray 11/4 (Stan James) and we're also going to have a bet on him to lose the first set and win the match at 6/1 (Ladbrokes).

Lleyton Hewitt has had a great Wimbledon so far, but despite having a better head to head record (6-5) against Andy Roddick he has lost both times they have met on grass and we can't see that stat changing today.

We think Roddick will be far too strong for Hewitt and we're going for a straight sets win for Roddick at odds of 2/1 (William Hill).

Tommy Haas is playing really well at present and we're going to back him to cause a minor upset against Novak Djokovic. He has beaten Djokovic the only time they have previously played on grass and we're taking Haas to do it again and run out the winner at odds of 15/8 (Paddypower).

We're backing Haas to win 3-1 at 7/1 (Sportingbet).

Our Wimbledon Selections for Day 4

Former Champion Lleyton Hewitt gets thing underway on centre court today when he meets fifth seed Juan Martin Del Porto. Hewitt showed flashes of his old form in his first round match and he could prove to be a bit of value at odds of 5/2 (Betfred).

Argentinian Del Porto has been knocked out at the second round stage on his previous two visits to Wimbledon and with Hewitt having a formidable Wimbledon record (winner once, semi finalist twice, quarter finalist twice) we’re going with Hewitt.

We can see Hewitt winning by 3-1 8/1 (Betfair).

Andy Murray will take centre stage later in the afternoon and he plays the big serving Ernest Gulbis in his second round match. They have met twice before in competition with Murray holding a 2-0 record over his opponent.

The last time they met on grass was last year at Queens where Gulbis took the first set 7-5 before going down by two – one in sets.

We have feeling that this could be Murray’s biggest test at Wimbledon this year and could be a potential minefield for the Brit. Gulbis has been in relatively poor form throughout the season however and while we think he will raise his game and make a match of it we think Murray may just edge this and win.

Murray is 1/14 (Coral) with Gulbis on offer at 8/1 (William Hill). we’re going for the match to go to four sets 9/4 (Skybet) with Murray eventually running out the 3-1 winner 3/1 (Ladbrokes). It could pay to take Gulbis to win the first set 9/2 (Ladbrokes) before Murray gets a foothold in the match.

The only other British player left in the tournament is Elena Baltacha and we believe she can win her match against Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium. Baltacha is currently ranked 9 places above the Belgian and has won both matches in straight sets on the two occasions they have previously met.

We’re backing Baltacha at 4/6 (Paddypower) to win. We’re also tipping her to win in sets 2-0 7/4 (Ladbrokes).

Tennis Betting Wimbledon Day 3

Yesterday our Wimbledon betting article here on the blog gave some nice winners.

We tipped Andy Murray to win by 3 sets to 1 at odds of 11/2 as well as tipping opponent James Kendricks to win one set at 7/2.

We also selected another British winner when we told our readers to get on Elena Baltacha to win the match at 9/4 and to bet on the 2-1 result at 5/1.

Today we have some more betting selections we hope can give us a few winners.

The first match we’re going to feature is the match between Maria Sharapova and Gisela Dulko. We don’t expect Miss Sharapova 2/9 (Stan James) to be the subject of a shock defeat by Miss Dulko 4/1 (Sportingbet), but Sharapova hasn’t found her return to matches easy after her long absence due to a shoulder injury and we think she may need three sets to win this one. Having a bet on this match to have a tie break at 11/4 (Ladbrokes) could bring a return.

We’re predicting Sharapova to win 2-1 in sets 3/1 (Ladbrokes).

Victoria Azarenka is a name we think you’ll be hearing a lot more of in Grand Slam events. The 19 year old from Belarus reached the quarter final of the French Open and beat Serena Williams in the final of the Miami Masters series. She plays Iona Olaru and while the win bet is too short at 1/20 (William Hill) we’re going to go for the under 8.5 games in the first set at 27/20 (William Hill) to give us a return.

Laura Robson’s conqueror Daniela Hantuchova takes to the court against China’s Jie Zheng. Hantuchova showed against Robson just how fragile her game and mental state can be and on a surface where she is not at her best we think she may struggle against an opponent that plays well on grass.

Jie Zheng hasn’t been in great for either lately but she does like playing on grass and has played well at Wimbledon before. We’re taking her to win at odds of 4/5 (VCBet). We think this will be a very close match and we’re taking it to go to three sets at 15/11 (Betfair). Jie Zheng to win 2-1 in sets at 10/3 (Betfred) is our prediction.

Novak Djokovic wasn’t totally convincing in his first round match and we think he might need four sets 11/4 (William Hill) to beat opponent Simon Gruel.

The Mardy Fish versus Jinko Tipsarevic looks as if it could go right down to the wire and we’re tipping a five set match at 31/10 (Betfair). We’re going for Tipsarevic to get the win 6/5 (Paddypower).

Wimbledon Day Two-Murray to Win in Straight Sets

Andy Murray sets out on his quest for Wimbledon glory today when he plays unseeded Robert Kendrick. This looks a pretty straightforward task for Murray against a player he has beaten the three previous times they have met.

At 1/100 (Paddypower) Murray isn't worth backing in a single to win the match, but you can get a bit better value by taking match score or how many sets will be played.

Kendrick has only taken one set in his three previous meetings with Murray, but we're going for him to match that performance today and we're tipping Murray to win 3-1 in sets at 11/2 (888Sport).

Kendrick is 7/2 (Ladbrokes) to win a set and that's another bet we wil be placing.

It could be a good day for the Brits today as we think Anne Keothavong, Elena Baltacha and Katie O'Brien could all end up winning their matches today.

Keothavong is a strong favourite 2/9 (William Hill) to beat Austrian Mayr and we're predicting a straight sets win 8/13 (Paddypower).

Elena Baltacha plays an opponent ranked 70 places above her, but Baltacha always seems to play her best tennis at Wimbledon and could spring a bit of a surprise. Baltacha beat Bondarenko the only previous time they played on grass winning in straight sets and running away with the second set 6-1.

We're tipping Baltacha to cause a minor upset and think she could be good value at 9/4 (Coral). We're also tipping a 2-1 score at 5/1 (Betfred).

Katie O' Brien is 13/8 to beat Iveta Benesova and while this could be a really close match, we're going for O'Brien to just edge it.

Other bets we think are worth considering today are Leyton Hewitt to win 3-1 11/4 (William Hill), Marat Safin 2/5 (Skybet) to beat Jesse Levine with a 3-1 sets score at odds of 11/4 (Stan James).

Wimbledon Day One Betting Tips

Wimbledon gets underway later today and each morning on the blog we'll be picking out a few bets for the day we think will bring a profit.

16 year old Portugese player Michelle Larcher de Brito is tipped by many to become a major player over the nect few years and she can win her first Wimbledon match at 15/8 (Betfred).

In the men's matches today Santiago Gonzalez looks a decent price at 6/4 (Ladbrokes) and Michael Yanni at 11/8 (888Sport)
